Dusit Zoo is the first public park and zoo in Thailand from the thought of King Chulalongkorn (King Rama V). When he visited Europe in 1857, he visited a zoo there and found that zoo was a place that provided not only pleasure but also knowledge. Dusit Zoo area was a part of Dusit Royal Park which King Chulalongkorn commanded to build as his personal park. In the era of King Ananda Mahidol (King Rama VIII), the park was abandoned. The King therefore donated the park to be the zoo of general public.
The zoo situated in the center of Bangkok near Sua Pha park and Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall on 71, King Rama 5 Road, Dusit Sub-District. In the 188 rai area, various kinds of animals are exhibited. In “Africa Wildlife Zone”, there are giraffes, zebras, and ostriches. In “Monkey and Langur Zone”, you will hear the sound of various kinds of monkeys and langurs that always move. The next area is “Lion and Tiger Zone”. The signatures of this zone are rare white tigers. The “Reptile Zone” exhibits turtles, snakes, and vivid chameleons. In “Bear Zone”, there are a lot of bears without cage such as sun bears and Asiatic black bears. The features of “Thai Wildlife Preservation Exhibition Zone” are white Fea's muntjacs which are hard to find. Moreover, there are many kinds of animals exhibited in the zoo. The zoo also provides animal shows such as the seal and elephant shows (Please check the show time before visiting).
The zoo is opened daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. (Visitors come at nighttime can watch animals at night on caravans). Ticket for Thai adult is 70 baht. Ticket for teacher, soldier and police is 30 baht. Ticket for university student is 30 baht and for student is 10 baht. For foreigners, the ticket is 100 baht for adult and 50 baht for kid.
